Mazdaspeed 3 / 6 & CX-7 2.3L DISI Turbo Oil & Water Line Guide

Application Guide Mazdaspeed 3 / 6 & Mazda CX-7 2.3L DISI Turbochargers

This guide helps you select the correct turbo oil feed, oil drain and water line kit for Mazdaspeed 3, Mazdaspeed 6 and Mazda CX-7 models fitted with the 2.3L MZR DISI Turbo engine.

Kit selection depends on the exact turbocharger. The stock K0422 and upgraded Garrett, BorgWarner and Precision turbochargers use different oil inlet fittings, oil-flow configurations, drain connections and water ports. Identify the turbo family before selecting the product type.

Quick Turbo Selection Guide

Identify your turbocharger family below to jump directly to line configurations, or compare setups in the summary table.

Step 1: Identify Your Turbocharger Family

Stock K0422 Series (K0422-582 / K0422-881 / K0422-882)

This category is for standard factory K0422 turbochargers and direct OEM replacement units on the 2.3L MZR DISI Turbo engine.

Includes -4AN PTFE oil feed line with a dedicated 1.8mm oil restrictor, reinforced NBR rubber oil drain hose/flanges, and options for PTFE water lines.

Garrett GT / GTX Series (GT28R / GT30R / GTX Configurations)

Designed for ball-bearing Garrett GT and GTX turbo upgrades installed on the 2.3L DISI engine.

Features a -4AN PTFE oil feed line with a calibrated 1.0mm restrictor, reinforced NBR drain connections, and -6AN PTFE braided coolant/water line options.

BorgWarner EFR Series

Engineered specifically for BorgWarner EFR series turbochargers requiring specialized feed fittings and water line connections.

Uses a full-flow -4AN PTFE oil feed line (non-restricted, as EFR housings feature an integrated internal restrictor), reinforced NBR drain hose, and -6AN PTFE water lines.

BorgWarner AirWerks Series (S200 / S300 / S400)

Designed for high-performance BorgWarner AirWerks builds (S200, S300, S400 series).

Includes a full-flow -4AN PTFE oil feed line (non-restricted) and heavy-duty reinforced NBR oil drain setup.

Precision PTE Series

Configured for Precision Turbo & Engine (PTE) installations on the 2.3L MZR DISI Turbo engine.

Features a full-flow -4AN PTFE oil feed setup (non-restricted on listed kits) and high-temp reinforced NBR oil drain hose with matching flanges.

Step 2: Kit Types & Actual Line Coverage

Kit Type Included Lines Recommended Use
Complete Turbo Oil & Water Line Kit — K0422 Oil feed, oil drain and water lines Full stock-turbo plumbing refresh.
Turbo Oil & Water Line Kit — Garrett / EFR Oil feed and water lines; oil drain is not included Upgraded turbo oil-supply and coolant plumbing. Add the matching drain kit if required.
Complete Turbo Oil Feed & Return Line Kit Oil feed and oil drain; water lines are not included Replaces the complete turbo oil circuit without changing the coolant lines.
Turbo Oil Feed Line Kit Oil feed line and related fittings only Replaces or converts the pressurized oil-supply side.
Turbo Oil Drain Hose Kit Oil drain hose, flanges and related hardware Replaces or converts the gravity-return side.
Engine Block or Turbo Oil Feed Fitting Kit Fittings only; hose is not included For custom -4AN oil feed line fabrication or individual fitting replacement.

Always check the Kit Included section on the individual product page. Do not assume that every product using “Oil & Water Line Kit” includes the oil drain system.

Oil Feed Control & Restrictor Specifications

The oil-feed restrictor is selected according to the turbocharger configuration, not the vehicle alone.

Current GryphonTek kit configurations use:

  • Stock K0422: 1.8mm restrictor
  • Garrett GT / GTX ball-bearing applications: 1.0mm restrictor
  • BorgWarner EFR: Full-flow, non-restricted feed configuration
  • BorgWarner AirWerks: Full-flow, non-restricted feed configuration
  • Precision PTE: Full-flow, non-restricted configuration on listed kits

CRITICAL: Do not transfer a K0422 or Garrett restrictor to another turbo family. If the turbocharger has been rebuilt, uses a different center housing or has manufacturer-specific oil-pressure requirements, verify those requirements before installation.

Oil Drain Routing & Hardware Guidelines

The turbo oil drain operates by gravity and must have a clear path back to the engine block or oil pan.

  • Route the drain hose continuously downward without kinks or obstructions.
  • Avoid sharp bends, collapsed hose sections, flat horizontal runs or uphill routing.
  • Keep the hose isolated from direct exhaust heat source or manifold radiant heat where possible.
  • Use the correct turbo-side and engine-side drain flanges with fresh gaskets.
  • Important Fitment Note: Some kits use a thick-profile engine-side drain flange and include extended engine-mount bolts. Always use the hardware specified in the product's Kit Included section.

Blue Smoke Diagnostic Note

Restricted oil drainage or an incorrect oil-feed configuration can contribute to oil leakage or exhaust smoke, but these are not the only possible causes.

Turbocharger seal wear, damaged internal sealing components, PCV failure, and excessive crankcase pressure may produce identical symptoms.

A turbo line kit replaces or converts the plumbing covered by that product. It cannot repair an already worn or damaged turbocharger. Diagnose the source of the smoke before relying on line replacement alone.

Before Ordering Checklist

Confirm the following details before placing your order to ensure perfect fitment:

  • The vehicle uses the 2.3L MZR DISI Turbo engine (Mazdaspeed 3, Mazdaspeed 6, or CX-7).
  • The exact turbocharger manufacturer, family, and model number.
  • The turbocharger bearing or center-housing configuration (Journal Bearing vs. Ball Bearing).
  • Whether you need oil feed, oil drain, water lines or the complete oil circuit.
  • Whether the selected Oil & Water Line Kit includes the oil drain hose.
  • The turbo mounting position and hose routing on custom or rotated installations.

For modified vehicles, send clear photos of the turbo identification plate, oil inlet, drain flange, water ports and engine-bay layout to customer support before ordering.
