Subaru EJ20 EJ25 Turbo Oil Line Fitment Guide
This guide explains how to select the correct turbo oil feed, oil drain or complete oil line kit for turbocharged Subaru EJ20 and EJ25 engines.
These engines were used across a wide range of WRX, STI, Forester XT, Legacy GT and Liberty GT applications, including common EJ205, EJ207, EJ255 and EJ257 configurations. However, engine displacement alone does not determine oil line fitment. The correct kit must be selected according to the turbo model, turbo mounting position and the engine-side oil feed configuration.

Step 1: Identify Your Turbo Setup
Stock-Location TD04L, TD05H and IHI VF-Series
This category is for TD04L, TD05H and compatible IHI VF-Series turbochargers installed in the factory turbo location.
Stock-location does not necessarily mean stock turbo. An upgraded TD05H or VF-Series turbo can still be considered stock-location if it retains the corresponding Subaru mounting position and oil drain geometry.
Bolt-On Garrett GT28R and GT30R
This category is for compatible Garrett GT28R and GT30R ball-bearing turbo conversions installed in the Subaru factory-style turbo location.
Although the turbo remains in a stock-location configuration, the Garrett turbo uses different oil inlet and drain connections from TD04L, TD05H and IHI VF-Series units. Select the Garrett-specific product rather than the standard Subaru turbo kit.
Rotated Garrett Turbo Setup
A rotated turbo setup uses a custom manifold or up-pipe arrangement that changes the turbo position and oil feed line routing. A standard stock-location oil line should not be selected only because the turbo is a GT30R or GT35R.
The rotated Garrett kit provides the engine-side connection, turbo-specific oil inlet fitting and a custom-length oil feed line. Confirm the required line length and turbo specification before ordering.
Current product coverage: Oil feed line only. The oil drain system is not included because drain routing depends on the turbo position, center housing orientation, manifold layout and engine oil return connection.
Rotated Precision PTE Turbo Setup
This oil feed kit is designed for rotated Subaru builds using supported Precision PTE turbo models, including PTE 5858, 6266, 6466 and 6870 applications.
Precision turbochargers with the same model number may be available with different generations or bearing systems. Do not select the oil feed restriction solely from the compressor model number.
The current GryphonTek rotated PTE kit uses a non-restricted turbo inlet connection. Before ordering, confirm that your exact PTE turbo version and bearing system require this oil feed configuration.
Current product coverage: Oil feed line only. A custom oil drain system must be selected or fabricated separately for the vehicle’s turbo position.
Rotated BorgWarner EFR Turbo Setup
This kit is designed for supported rotated BorgWarner EFR turbo applications, including EFR 7163, 8374 and 9180.
BorgWarner EFR turbochargers have an oil restrictor integrated into the bearing housing. An additional external oil restrictor should not be installed unless specifically directed by the turbo manufacturer.
Current product coverage: Oil feed line only. The oil drain must be configured according to the final turbo position and center housing orientation.

Step 3: Choose AVCS or Non-AVCS
After opening the correct oil feed or complete kit product, select the option that matches the engine-side oil feed configuration.

This selection changes the engine-side oil feed configuration supplied with the applicable kit. It does not change the turbo-side oil drain kit. Do not identify the correct option from “EJ20” or “EJ25” alone. AVCS equipment varies by engine code, model year, market and engine conversion history.
Factory Mesh Screen Technical Note
Some Subaru EJ turbo oil supply systems use a banjo or union bolt containing a small mesh screen. The screen is intended to catch contamination, but accumulated debris or oil deposits may restrict the oil supply if the component is not inspected and serviced.
Not every screened union bolt serves the same circuit. Depending on the engine and model year, screened bolts may be associated with the turbo oil supply, AVCS oil passages or another oil feed location. Confirm the function of the fitting before removing or replacing it.

This is an aftermarket braided-line conversion fitting. It does not replace the engine’s primary oil filter and should not be described as a mandatory Subaru factory modification.

Individual fittings are intended for custom braided-line fabrication or replacement work. They are not complete line kits.

Key Installation Notes
- Compare all fittings and sealing surfaces before removing the original oil line.
- Inspect and clean the engine oil supply path before connecting a new or rebuilt turbocharger.
- Do not allow the oil feed hose to twist, rub against sharp edges or contact exhaust components.
- Keep the oil drain continuously downhill and free from sharp bends or collapsed hose sections.
- Use sealant only where the fitting design requires it. Do not apply thread sealant to AN flare sealing faces.
- Prime the turbocharger and oil feed line before the first engine start according to the turbo manufacturer’s procedure.
- Start the engine and inspect every connection for leaks before driving the vehicle. Recheck after reaching operating temperature.
- Follow the turbo manufacturer’s oil pressure, restrictor and center housing orientation requirements.

Are all Subaru EJ20 and EJ25 turbo oil lines the same?
No. Fitment varies according to the turbo model, mounting position, engine-side AVCS configuration and turbo oil inlet connection.

Do the rotated turbo kits include an oil drain line?
No. The current rotated Garrett, Precision and BorgWarner EFR products are oil feed kits only. Drain routing must be configured separately for the individual installation.
Is a 1.0 mm restrictor suitable for every turbo?
No. Restrictor selection depends on the turbo bearing system, manufacturer specification and actual oil pressure entering the turbo.
Should every Subaru factory mesh screen be removed?
No universal removal instruction applies to every EJ20 or EJ25 engine. Identify the circuit, inspect the component and follow the correct service or aftermarket conversion procedure for the installed configuration.
What information should I provide if I am unsure?
